somewhat friends only

banner by [info]wicked_visions

My journal used to be all friends-only, but then I thought that was silly because it's not like I'm posting nuclear secrets here. So, as of April 2, 2008, some of my entries are friends-only and some of them are not.

some stuff you should know before friending me )

So, if you want to be added to my friends list, read the stuff below the cut, comment on this thread (all comments are screened, so feel free to say anything incriminating you want!), and I'll probably add you. :)

taskmaster - lol wut no way!

where did the month of June go?

I had two interesting dreams last night.

The first was about Taskmaster, which I guess isn't a surprise since I wrote fic about him before I went to bed. He took his girlfriend, Sandi, to see The Proposal in the theater so he might learn how to express his romantic feelings better (the dude has photographic reflexes, so he almost-instantly learns how to do things by watching others do them). And he was all pissed because Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) was in the movie. XD It was funny.

The second was about Phantom! :O I dreamed that the Phantom tour was coming to Detroit in September (which I believe to be true?) and that Thomas Schulze was the new principal Phantom. That was enough to get me to buy tickets to Detroit...haha. Even though I don't care about the musical much anymore, if I had the chance to see Thomas Schulze live, I'd still take it in a heartbeat. Mmm.

EPIC DO NOT WANT when it comes to going to work today. Bah.

meme from Beaver

Fandom meme: Comment and I'll find (up to) THREE FANDOMS you apparently love. And then you answer these questions about them!

01: What got you into this fandom in the first place?
02: Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?
03: Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc.?
04: Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?
05: Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?

Beaver gave me Cable & Deadpool, Watchmen, and The X Files )

[If you want to play, be sure to tell me that you want to in the comment - otherwise I may forget to give you fandom(s). XD]

I finally saw the Star Trek movie

I know, I'm like the last person in the United States, or at least on LJ, to see the movie. :P My verdict? It is the best movie I've seen in a lonnnnnng time. It had just about anything I could want in it. I loved it, and I haven't laughed that much in a theater since I saw the second Austin Powers movie. And I really like how they handled the material the lone spoiler underneath here )

Also, SPOCK. I love him. Love love love love him. Still waters run deep and all that stuff.

But, that said, I have no urge at all to participate in the fandom or write fic or see the Star Trek TV series or...anything. That is so weird. D: (I am, however, going to buy this on DVD as soon as it comes out, because this movie was great.)

“This show was better than the last one but needed ROCKET LAUNCHERS and FIREWORKS and SUPERHEROS to really make it memorable. I met this guy who said he was a time-travelller and his name was Nathan Summers. Tall guy with a metal arm. I think he drove an SUV.”

Random note: I hate, hate, hate downtown Charlotte. Practically every street I wanted to take was closed and had no marked detour, so I was all turned around and almost late. :P

“Hi everyone, I am in the parking garage after seeing Phantom(?) and I have to say I'm really sad that I am disappointed I don't know I just didn't want just that I mean dancing like 2 Christine of scene that I wanted to pitch up and she was one of them and the kids just awful I mean maybe she had a bad day I don't know but she didn't have any chemistry with anybody. Tell me what's still kind of feeling out the ball. The final wear was definitely his boss and so I'm less something else so how should I described it in text I guess would be very cute but he had some really weird facial expressions and he'll probably the pertviest(?) Ral(?) I ever seen and I don't think he meant to be it's just his features were just so strange I guess. I don't know I guess the best moment was wondering I was on the stage on the shoe makers and the amazing rat and I seen a captain wearing a mustache, it's hilarious. He doesn't like old enough to be sporting facial hair especially got dimples so that was definitely funny every time he came on stage but all together really disappointed and I don't know it's because I'm kind of nailed out feeling right now or it's because it was really that bad but I don't know guys. I really don't know. Talk to you later. Bye.”

deadpool - ryan time to go to work

ordnance always works

I'm leaving Friday morning for Charlotte. I'm a little excited, but mostly not. I think it's the seven hour drive that is making me not want to go. :P Tim, you had so better be worth it. I am still disappointed that I won't be seeing Richard Todd Adams as Phantom. Sigh.

I spent a good hour or so last night adding all of my comic books to this site. Yeah, I know 212 aren't that many, but considering that I had never read a comic book or graphic novel until late February of this year? Not too shabby, if I say so myself. I've picked up a lot of cheap lots on eBay. I could pretty much spend at least a year of my life on this site, because they have all sorts of information that I didn't know I wanted to have until now. Like every single Taskmaster appearance.

One of my new favorite quotes: "I only wish I could be sure that people really do work...but when in doubt, there's always the comforting reassurance that ordnance does." It totally shows how awesome Nathan Summers truly is. XD He could be my GI Jesus any day of the week.

I apparently need to decimate my liver to be able to write nowadays. Hmph.

Soooooooooooooooooo.

Oh man. So I spent all of this time working on a Deadpool custom mood theme, and guess what I just remembered? This journal style doesn't show my mood pics! D: Now do I part with my beautiful butterflies or keep kicking myself in the ass for spending all of this time on a mood theme and not being able to use it?

I had a little to drink tonight. Results? Beaver's stealing my kidney and I wrote 4000+ words.

This is a "new" book from Amazon

I'm sorry, but this is going to be a rant. Maybe a rant of epic proportions. But definitely a rant.

So, I signed up for Amazon Prime in April, mainly because I am a huge book nerd. I also lack a great deal of patience, so I like to have what I want NOW. So, I figured that it'd be a good investment. Since signing up for Amazon Prime, though, I've been getting a hell of a lot of books that look like this:

That, my friends, is a "new" book shipped from Amazon. Oh yes, it arrived in two days. But...the condition! The front cover has two large diagonal creases (the "classic" you see in the bottom corner is actually from the first page and not the cover), and the top corner is literally peeling apart (the inside pages aren't white - that's the "guts" of the cover) and smushed.

Now, I know that this could happen to any order. What I dislike, however, is that this is happening at a very high rate. Out of the nine books I've ordered in the past two months, five have been damaged so much that I have had to return them. That's over 50%, and I don't like those odds.

The problem is that Amazon throws books into boxes that are far too large for them without any packing materials at all. So, in the end, I get a book that looks like it has been brought here by the Pony Express from California, not UPS from Kentucky.

I'm pissed. I'm tired of having to return books all of the time because Amazon can't get this right. I've emailed customer service three times, and all I get is a "oh I'm sorry, we'll send you a replacement" canned response. The kicker? The "replacement" is often in just as bad of shape, if not worse, than the original.

Take, for example, the Clay Enos Watchmen book I bought for $35. The first copy I received had a three inch tear in the dust jacket. Now, I pay $35 for a book, I expect it to be in very good condition. I do not expect a three inch tear in the jacket. I returned it. Amazon sent me a replacement. I was happy until I opened the box. The replacement had three tears in them, one of them being four inches long. Yes, I measured these tears. Back it went to Amazon, this time for a refund, and I bought the book on eBay from someone for $18 including shipping. It arrived in pristine condition.

ARGH. I am definitely not renewing my Prime membership once it expires. :P It's nice to get books quickly, but you know what's even nicer? Getting them in good condition. :P

Name your 10 absolutely favorite couples (het/slash/canon/fanon) and ask people to see what trends they notice about your couples. Try to pick different fandoms.

1) Harvey/Rachel (The Dark Knight)
2) Dexter/Rudy(Brian) (Dexter)
3) Rorschach/Laurie (Watchmen)
4) Cable/Deadpool (Cable & Deadpool)
5) Raoul/Christine (Phantom of the Opera)
6) Erik Destler/Christine Day (Phantom of the Opera - I know it said pick different fandoms, but I think the 1989 movie is something different entirely)
7) Amon/Helen (Schindler's List)
8) Jane/Edward (Jane Eyre)
9) Jervis/Judy (Daddy-Long-Legs)
10) Hannibal/Clarice (Silence of the Lambs) (but I prefer it to be unrequited)

Terminator Salvation

Whoa, I saw two movies in two days? I think that this is some new kind of record for me.

Up today: Terminator Salvation. It was one of those movies that I probably never would have seen if I hadn't been bombarded with a pretty awesome trailer every time I went to see Watchmen. The first twenty minutes or so were kind of slow, but then the action picked up really quickly. Overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I may even go back to see it again before it leaves the theaters.

spoiler for anyone who hasn't seen the trailer )

tons of spoilers )

I've never watched any of the Terminator movies, which is apparently a crime against pop culture. I guess I'll need to remedy this, because I've heard good things about them (at least the first two), and I think that I'd probably understand TS more if I knew the background here. Although the film did give a couple of blurbs for the uninitiated, such as myself.

Post a single sentence from each WIP you have (or as many as you want to pick). No context, no explanations. No more than one sentence!

Now, the question is - will I ever FINISH any of them? XD

(no subject)

I got a Hannibal Lecter action figure today - the one where he is in the prison cell. The only question I have is why didn't I get him before today? I mean, seriously. I love Hannibal, and the prison scene is one of my favorites, and IT IS IN ACTION FIGURE FORM. This should have been a complete no-brainer.

My poor Ozy bust! He looks kind of scared that Hannibal is going to brain him there, I think. ;)

I need to respond to some emails and comments and stuff...meh, sorry. The past few weeks have not been very pleasant ones for me, and work is pretty much killing my brain. I'll get to them soon. But, for now, a meme!

1) Post a list of up to 20 books/movies/anime/TV shows/video games/etc.
2) Have your f-list guess your favorite character from each item.

watchmen - rorschach blue and clock

last post of the day, I swear

Sorry for being spammy tonight; I guess I'm bored. Or chatty. Or...something.

Anyway, check out my awesome Rorschach figure below the cut! )

I made him be left-handed like he is in the comic. ;) Besides the grappling gun, he also comes with an itty bitty can of Veidt hairspray and a lighter. Oh, and some interchangeable hands. I took off his mask (his face isn't that great of a sculpt, and he has brownish red hair instead of being a carrot top) and trench coat (he has the purple suit coat and scarf, but no wifebeater - it's a full-length dress shirt instead, WTF?). He's a little bulky with all of the clothing, but overall, well worth the $48 I spent on him (I am the queen of eBay).

A little birdie told me that Hot Toys is supposed to be making at least three Watchmen figures (Rorschach, the Comedian, and I think Nite Owl II). If that is true, then this gif will be most appropriate:

watchmen - rorschach doorway

why are subject lines so hard to think of?

Tomorrow I'm going to see Watchmen again. No, I'm not obsessed. Not at all. O:)

I'm a little disappointed that the get-together with fellow Watchmen fans in Ohio is apparently not going to happen, because I haven't heard back from them. But, that's okay. I like watching movies by myself anyway. ;)

I'm writing fic. So far, I've managed to crank out a measly 554 words in about six hours, but I'm very proud of those 554 words. For some reason that I can't explain, writing for Watchmen is proving to be much easier than I'd initially expected. It also doesn't hurt that there are so many amazing writers in the fandom; I find an amazing fic almost every day. Reading great fan fiction inspires me to try to write some of my own...I don't know, that's just how I function.

I totally forgot that Easter is coming up this weekend. I guess that's what happens when you don't celebrate it. I know what this means! DISCOUNTED EASTER CANDY ON MONDAY, YES. I'm going to grab some peeps and Reese peanut butter eggs. ;)

watchmen - comics OH NOEZ BRAS

Watchmen x 5

Yeah, I watched it again. XD It'll probably be the last time that I'll be able to catch it in theaters; besides, I had a really shitty day and needed a pick-me-up.

The more I see it, the more I love Ozymandias...

Also, when they play the muzak version of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears in the part when Ozy's talking to the captains of industry about Alexander the Great and wanting to conquer the ills that beset mankind? LOLOLOL COMEDY GOLD. I can't keep a straight face thinking about it, much less when I'm actually watching the movie.

I had an hour and a half to kill, so I went to Barnes & Noble again to browse, since we don't really have what I consider to be a "real" bookstore down here. I didn't buy anything, but I found about a dozen books that I'm going to buy eventually. Then I came home and bought Swamp Thing Vol. 1 by Alan Moore. I know that they say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but I think the cover art is beautiful. Besides, I haven't read anything by Alan Moore yet that I haven't adored. Sigh. As if my "to read" list isn't totally out of control already! Well, as my mom always said when I was a little kid, "It could be worse. It could be drugs."

And, on the way home, I was bitten by a plotbunny of doom. As if I don't have more than enough of those, too...
